i thought jaco pastorius was alive

but he actually died a few years ago, 1987 to be exact. but not many people come close to his madness on the bass. that's right, not even victor wooten. here's a little more on his death from wiki:

"After sneaking onstage at a Carlos Santana concert September 11, 1987, he was ejected from the premises, and he made his way to the Midnight Bottle Club in Wilton Manors, Florida. What then happened was clouded with discrepancy. After reportedly kicking in a glass door after being refused entrance to the club, he was engaged in a violent confrontation with the club bouncer, Luc Havan, who was trained in martial arts. Pastorius was hospitalized for multiple facial fractures and gruesome disfigurement to his face, including the probable loss of his right eye and sustained irreversible brain damage. He fell into a coma and was put on life support. His condition worsened and increasing signs pointed to brain death and so his family decided to remove him from life support. Pastorius died on September 21, 1987, aged 35, at Broward General Medical Center in Fort Lauderdale."

pat methany said that jaco was probably the last jazz musician of the 20th century.
